Excellent opening for Programmer (Bioinformatics) at ICRISAT, Patancheru





ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the post of Programmer (Bioinformatics) to be based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India. This is a nationally recruited position.


Post : Programmer (Bioinformatics)

Responsibilities :

Prototype, develop, deploy, and document software that supports the analysis, annotation and quality control pipelines;

Work with Bioinformatics Scientists, Analysts and other stakeholders to implement and augment data processing pipelines according to requirements and specifications;

Support Bioinformatics and sequencing operations with scripting, data motion, and automation coding using pearl scripting and java programmes;

Support integration of data analysis pipelines with NGS and analyze sequencing data using the established pipelines as needed.

Develop and/or support programs for GBS analysis and comparative genomics

Competencies :

Basic understanding of Bioinformatics and Biological sciences

Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Requirements :

M.S. in computer science, Bioinformatics, physics, mathematics or similar with demonstrable computational and software development skills;

Demonstrated ability to produce well designed, documented code in some of R, Perl, or similar; experience programming in Java/C++ a big plus;

Software development experience supporting the life sciences in data analysis and automation

Proficiency in using build, test, version control, and documentation tools;

Proficiency working in a Linux environment and with Unix shell scripting;

Proficiency with the SGE cluster environment; familiarity with operating in a cloud environment such as AWS a big plus;

Familiarity with the ecosystem of standard tools for primary sequence analysis (e.g. BWA, samtools, vcftools, bedtools, tabix, Picard tools, GATK, CASAVA, Bowtie, Tophat, Cufflinks), their APIs and standard file formats (SAM/BAM, VCF, BED, etc.);

Experience in working in interdisciplinary project teams;

General : This position is a nationally recruited staff position for three years and renewable based on the performance of the incumbent and the Institute's continuing need for the position. An attractive compensation is offered for the right candidate.
